Pinocchio Latest Disney Animated Movie Going Live-Action

Pinocchio becomes the latest Disney animated feature set to get the live-action treatment and that’s no lie! Today’s episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by the new movie, The Longest Ride in theaters April 10th! Another day, another Disney animated classic is set to be turned into a live-action movie. Deadline reports that The Odd Life of Timothy Green writer, Peter Hedges, has been hired to bring the story of Pinocchio to the big screen in a live-action version of the classic tale of a living puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. Based on the 1883 novel by Carlo Collodi, Disney turned the tale into one of the most popular animated features of all-time back in 1940. The live-action adaptation is reportedly not going to follow the plot of the original directly, but focus on themes such as the relationship between a father and son and how telling lies can have dire consequences. This will be just one of several Pinocchio movies in development. Director Guillermo del Toro has been working on a stop-motion animated version of the story with the Jim Henson Company that is described as having a much darker tone and Robert Downey Jr. was at one point set to play the title character as well as his creator/father “Gheppeto” in another version, though development on both projects have seem to stalled as of late. If you’ve been keeping track, Pinocchio will be just the latest of several Disney animated films set to be turned into live-action features with Winnie the Pooh and Mulan movies recently announced. Director Tim Burton is also developing a live-action version of Dumbo, while a live-action version of The Jungle Book is set for April 15th, 2016 and Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 17th, 2017.
