Take a listen to the drum stems and see if you can pick out the compressed drum stem vs parallel compressed drum stem. The compression settings are very mild as I would do in a typical mix, so you have to pay close attention (and preferably use good studio monitors or headphones). All stem examples are level matched, so volume will not impact your decision. Waveforms are also removed so that you will not be swayed visually. Use your ears!
Keep in mind that I am not advocating that one is better than the other. The intent is to hear the difference between both and to quickly explain the concept.
